Joe Jenkins, Sr., is the owner and founder of several musical entities under the umbrella of Magic City Music for Kids. They include Music for Kids School, Magic City Kids Orchestra, Magic City Boys & Girls Choir, and Magic City Music.
Mr. Jenkins has worked with children since 1986 and has taught hundreds of kids through his music schools, choirs, and outreach programs. His early childhood music classes, Kids Orchestra, were featured on the NBC Today Show as an innovative approach to teaching music to young children! The award-winning Magic City Boys & Girls Choir has traveled and performed all over the USA, as well as Italy and France. Magic City Music offers music education classes to private and church-based elementary and middle schools that don’t have a formal music program in their structure.
Mr. Jenkins holds music education degrees from Virginia Union University, Oakland University, and Samford University. Mr. Jenkins is also certified as a Level III Orff-Schulwerk Children’s Music Specialist.
Mr. Jenkins is the recipient of numerous awards including the Childcare Resources’ Children’s Advocate Award, NAACP Outstanding African-American Award, the United Negro College Fund Arts & Culture Pioneer Award, the Links’ Living Legend Award, the Professor Carlton Reese Music & Humanitarian Legacy Award, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Life Enhancement Award.
